ABOUT ME, GETTING STARTED

Hello. I’m Bonnie Thornborough. I am a Focusing-trained teacher and artist who believes creativity can play an important role in health and well-being. In 2026 I am just getting started with the development of Art for Time, offering group workshops, build-your-own series, individual sessions, and eventually my own artwork, books, and resources to help support anyone curious about what your own unique creativity has to say.

Some of you may be thinking “but I’m not good at art.” This is a perfect process for you. There is no such thing as good or bad. It is not about a product at all; it is about the creative process, and how going through it helps you discover something helpful from within yourself.

“It is not about a product at all; it is about the creative process, and how going through it helps us discover something helpful from within ourselves.”

I have an MFA and background in graphic design education. This is where I developed my love for guiding and supporting people through their creative process. It is amazing! Time and time again, in various classes and projects I have taught at all levels, I have been honored to witness the way that going through the unfolding process of creating and expressing something new can have so many positive effects—not just on the projects, but on the creators themselves.

When I was inspired by my own journey through difficult life challenges, I began to more formally study how expressive arts can be used with the somatic practice of Focusing and FOAT® (Focusing-Oriented Art Therapy) to improve well-being and move forward in positive ways. I earned advanced certificates in FOAT Facilitation and Arts in Health to guide my professional work toward the connection between creativity and wellness. I was also grateful for the opportunity to explore this by developing creativity workshops for a non-profit that supports youth mental health and substance-use prevention.

I am excited for the potential ahead! I imagine you are, too. Learning to use Focusing with our unique creative expression is a life skill that will serve us well.

ABOUT TIME

The name Art for Time was born decades ago when I noticed that much of the artwork I created explored various aspects of the deeply fascinating concept of time—especially as it relates to creativity. This theme has continued throughout my work as a teacher guiding students through the creative process, throughout my personal life and support of youth development and learning, and throughout my studies of expressive arts, mental health, Focusing, creativity, and well-being.

I love the idea that even though creating art takes time; it is also true that creating art gives time.

Perhaps when we say we’re making time for art; what we’re really doing is making art for time.
