Creative Wellness Through Expressive Arts

Hi, I'm Bonnie Doucette Thornborough—a Focusing-certified creative wellness coach, educator, artist, and designer who believes in the power of creativity and expressive arts to support health and wellbeing for everyone.

My passion is guiding "non-artist" artists in creating expressive artwork that fosters:

  • Personal insight and growth

  • Team-building and support-group dialogue

  • Collaborative community art projects

  • Creative experiences tailored to your unique goals and ideas

You don't need artistic training or experience to benefit from the creative process. Spending time in a creative state can help people connect with themselves and others in meaningful, positive ways.

I offer individual sessions and group workshops that use creative expression as a tool for self-discovery, wellbeing, communication, and connection.

Creating Together

One of my favorite aspects of this work is helping groups create collaborative artwork that reflects their shared experiences, values, and strengths.

Imagine, as an example, a tree composed of dozens of individual “joy” doodles, each person's unique contribution becoming part of something larger and more meaningful. The designer in me loves bringing these creations together—every mark, color, and shape is a valuable piece of the whole.

Collaborative art can be displayed as a powerful symbol of:

  • Inclusion and belonging

  • Team values and culture

  • Community connection

  • Diversity and shared purpose

Beyond the Workshop

The skills and mindsets we practice through Focusing* and creative expression extend far beyond any single workshop. Creative expression often opens doors to conversations that deepen self-awareness, strengthen relationships, and build healthier communities. The experience can develop lifelong tools for listening, reflecting, connecting, and growing. Learning to use Focusing* and creative expression develops skills that serve us well throughout our lives.

Let's Create Something Meaningful

Consider hosting a creative wellness workshop for a person or group you care about:

  • Support groups

  • Employees and workplace teams

  • Youth organizations

  • Senior centers

  • Leadership retreats

  • Community groups

  • Families and friends

Whether you're looking to encourage personal growth, strengthen relationships, spark meaningful dialogue, or create a lasting collaborative artwork, I'd love to help design an experience that meets your needs.

*Focusing is a mindfulness technique in which we shift attention away from our thoughts and toward our bodily-felt sense with gentle curiosity and openness—receiving new awareness through unfolding presence. Focusing is especially fruitful when combined with creative expression.
