for you
For You is about giving deeply of oneself to someone we love. It represents giving a piece of one’s existence—one’s future. It promises a deep connection, and expresses a belief in the strength of love’s gift to help us through difficult times.
I created this piece when I was pregnant with my first child, though it is not only for a child. It is any expression of the purest kind of love, acceptance, and care for another.
The imagery shows an awkward, imperfect strand, and the type says:
“I teased this strand of time out of my future. It’s not one that runs horizontally or vertically but diagonally, with some loops, through my whole existence. It’s not perfect but it’s the best one I could find. It’s for you. I hope you hang on to it. You never know when it might help hold something together.”
I wish for every person to receive—and also be able to give—at least one of these gifts of time.
For You was created in Adobe Photoshop, where I combined scans of string and blurred texture with my original writing.
