realization

Realization is about the feeling of something new emerging—a new awareness, idea, or creative project taking shape.

It combines the meaning of the word “realization” with two sensations that go with it. Whenever we understand something in a new way, or work to make something happen, it feels like two simultaneously opposite actions: it feels as though fragments of thoughts and forces merge and come together to form a new meaning, and it also feels like a cosmic explosion of energy—bursting outward from the essence of the idea.

This piece also uses the double meaning of “realization.” When we create a physical form for something, we realize it; and when we understand something in a fresh, new way, we realize it. This duality is at the heart of my belief in the power of the creative process to offer wellness and new understanding.

Through realizing something new, we can realize something new.

Realization was created in Adobe Photoshop, where I layered scans of fibrous material, glitter, paint textures and type.
