matter of time
Matter of Time is about the tiny deaths that leave space for deeper realizations and awareness. And the truth that we listen for—a truth that resonates and emerges from a hollow.
It is inspired by the life and shell of a sea creature, the spiral shape of our inner ear, and the tradition of listening to an empty shell to hear an amplified sound roaring like the ocean.
We create around our soft inner selves, our hearts, as a means of survival—the artwork of our lives, our stories, identities, beliefs; the shelter in which we dwell; the armor that protects us from the inevitable passing of (a version of) self. Yet it is only with the death of that version of ourselves, and through the form of what we create, that we can actually hear time’s enduring song.
“Yet it is only with the death of that version of ourselves, and through the form of what we create, that we can actually hear time’s enduring song.”
Like hearing the vast and powerful ocean crashing deep inside the hollow instrument of a shell, only when we die inside our layer of protective matter can we finally hear the truth in our particular existence—a swirling, singing, resonating, expanding truth that transcends beyond what our ear’s spiral cochlea can hear, and beyond life itself.
Matter of Time was created in Adobe Photoshop, where I combined original watercolor painting, writing, and photos.
